One question, what makes u SI? have u thought of the real reason we SI? I am thinking on what makes me SI, it's usually when i see horrorible stuff like dead people with thier faces melting off screaming at me "i'm gonna kill u". If that doesn't freak u out i don't know what else will. Also i do it out of fustration and buildup of stress that an event start's the seemless outbrust of thoughts of cutting and rushing into action on that thought.

Posts: 2 (07/20/09 22:58:50) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts Report Post	i don't self injure myself either. the only thing i do is punch through glass windows when i get angry, but better to punch the window than my professor or mom. the worst i've bleed is when my professor was being unfair to me. went outside to cooldown for about 5-10 min. went back upstairs, apparently was still pissed off cuz the hall way door was infront of me and i punched the small glass opening at the top. it was like 2 inches thick, but im guessing it was a weak type of glass or my hand would have been broken. ill admit the rush of warm blood flowing down my hand did feel good, but my prof. did me wrong, and i was still tee'ed off. made a huge red mess all over the hallway.

Posts: 200 (07/21/09 03:43:16) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts Report Post	I had forgotten I even posted this, it's been a while......Well, since it's been brought to my attention again...I actually had remembered now that when I was much younger, I sliced the palms of my hands up with scissors a few different times, never making a real 'habit' of it....and never used anything but scissors.....not that it makes it any better either way. It seems I had actually blocked out the fact that I had ever done that, seeing as how it never really left major scars...and not ones that others ever notice. I'll admit, I had just cut my arms up with a pair of scissors the other week....I had one of my "attacks" and felt out of control, was alone, and had just hit rock bottom.......it's so weird I barely had recollection of doing this at one point until I was in the middle of so many overwhelming emotions and impulsiveness, and the scissors were very close. Sigh.... I'm alright now of course.......

Posts: 6 (07/30/09 08:16:10) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts Report Post	I too am not a cutter I do something a little different I pull hair from legs with tweezers and pick at blackheads all over me sometimes so much I bleed but you definately are not alone in this I also punch walls I have done that for years when I get mad. So there are lots of different ways to self injure.

For the past few years I have had a tendency that when I am upset I go for late night walks, like around 10 or 12 at night. For most of the walk I stay in well lit areas along a well traveled road. But if my mood is still sour after a couple hours then I will walk along an area that is pitch black, through a heavily wooded secluded area (I have also rode bike along the same dark path at night). I do it because I am in an "I don't care mood" and it's a way of testing fate. I told her that I get kind of an adreanaline rush from feeling at risk while I am doing it. When I told my group instructor that she said it was an interesting way to self harm. I guess I had never really thought to include it as a form of self harm. To me that is a very broad way to define self harm but at the same time there is a ring of truth to it. It seems at times that the only limit to ways of self harming is the limit of imagination. Every time I find I improve in one area the direction shifts to a new form and later I find out I haven't really made the progress that I think I have. It's like now I take an effective coping skill, walking, and I turn it into something bad without intending to. I sometimes wonder if others have this much trouble with taking healthy coping skills and keeping them healthy. Bear, I completely understand what you and your instructor had meant. I've done things like that too when I was in that state of mind where I "did not care." I'd do things that were risky and could put me in danger as well. I use the past tense only because I can't really think of any way I've done that recently. That certainly is a way of potentionally harming ourselves....absolutely. And I do also tend to use one form of self-harm, leave it, just to pick up another form. I have a lot of trouble in finding/using healthy coping skills....just the same as you do. I hope you are well tonight - hope everyone is, xox

He is considered high functioning, however , has cognitive delays... What I have read up on Self harm their are three catorgory's . ! of them are people who have autism or have a develpmental delays. their is also a name for the Hair pulling. It is quite long. this behavior is common in Children . I remember working as a teacher , we had a child , who had literaly pulled out ALL of his hair. I never forgot him. He was only 5 yrs old. my son. He has hit himself in the face, as well as punches walls, when younger he constantly would split his bottom lip on purpose, and keep it from healing. It became deeper and deeper. Looking like a major cut lip. He also is a spinner, never has really gotten out of that behavior either. He loves to spin around in circles, ever since he was very little, and he's a hand flapper too, sometimes he still makes odd noises as well. He is now 16 yrs old, and I take him to a therapist , to help support him, and make sure the hitting himself does not continue . NOW , with my Si issues. Well I have si'd well over 25 years off and on. Including a bad eating disorder , anorexia, and bulimia . I was severely thin. Had this for 8-10 yrs of my life. I would cut and burn at the age of 16 while in a mental hospital, even using a paper clip to hurt myself , just kept cutting in the same area. Those are still very white scars on my wrists. However, then, somehow, Burning was the chosen method. And at the age of 35 something happened , I just went way downhill, and the Si became worse then ever . Maybe it was around 37 or so? I don't know for certain, just that it intensified , and is severe now. Very bad . Each yr. I go through a bad eposode of Severe Si. What I mean is that the Si , lands me in the critical care unit, and surgries, bood transfusions , and of course the stupid psych eval. \ I also Si to lesser extreme, once I start the SI up again , it is very hard for me not to contiune. The Si stops down during the summer time , because my son is home, however the winter months are the worse for me. I better write here, that I am diagnosed with BPD, Major Depression, and PTSD as well. For me, it is not just the BPD, it is all these other things, and it is very overwhelming most days .

I made a flower as i burned myself. I sometimes get so anger i punch myself in the face and body but mostly i burn or cut myself. ms cat my friend Melinda in the same place as u, her 15 year old son has turrette's syndom, add, adhd, and high functioning autism. I am going to ask to join the forum.
