Just starting DBT and looking at the Mindfulness Handout 1. with the circles and states of mind. I swear, my circles don't overlap, I have no grey. It's either emotional insanity or bricks, nothing else.

I have such a hard time finding the middle path. Emotional mind rocks me like a hurricane and reasonable mind is my only stabilizing tool, but danged if I can
get to Wise Mind from there.

Littlebird, hang in there with DBT. It has saved my sanity. The more you practice it, the more grays you get and the more you move toward the middle path. I
cringe inside when i think of the crazy *#@! I used to think and do and then blamed god or whoever for the chaos. I'm only 2 years into DBT and even though
I don't think I can say that Wise Mind rules in me yet, I am definetely closer to it than when I started.

Hey LB,
Wise Mind is tough to reach. Many people have a hard time reaching wise mind. Don't push it. For me, I still don't know when I'm in Wise Mind. I still need my therapist to tell me, " you were in wise mind there." I have a much easier time, though, identifying when I'm completely out of control in emotional mind only. Maybe your therapist can help you identify when you are in Wise Mind. I think the more we use our other DBT skills, the more likely we will be in Wise Mind. |

Thank you, horse and yoyogirl.
I get so frustrated when I make no progress. I need to keep trying. You're right.

Don't be so hard on your self LB. I went through an intensive DBT and it didn't "stick".

I can identify with problem praticing wise mind. Your explaining about identifying when out of control emotion. Is good idea. I could atleast start with that.
