To All,
When several of the message boards were changed from moderated to unmoderated, foul language began to creep into many posts. Before then, when moderators had to read every post and reply before deciding to release it, we deleted messages that did not adhere to the board rules. Unmoderated boards rely on the "honor system" to a large extent; members are being trusted to follow the rules.
Moderators have kindly been editing posts containing foul language. In that sense, we too have been breaking the rules. However, how can we expect others to follow the rules when we bend or break them ourselves?
Therefore, posts containing inappropriate language as defined by the rules set forth by the owner of this site will be deleted henceforth.
The English language has more words than any person can learn. People who suffer from BPD are, in general, very resourceful. Therefore, I encourage you all to use your resourcefulness and imaginations to express yourselves rather than using "foul" language that often loses its meaning or has too many shadings, thus inviting ambiguity. As an example, I'll use one of the words that is allowed ... when I call someone an "ass," I am referencing an animal known for its stubborn narrowmindedness rather than a part of the human anatomy.
Here is the rule as written by Patty, the owner of BPD Today, in regard to foul language ...
No foul language is permitted except in the "Private Room." (If you absolutely feel you must; the words "crap," "hell," "damn" & "ass" are permitted). It is true that there are times when curse words are helpful when expressing yourself and they are very powerful. However, many people take offense to this and many times this habit can be abused. This is also a good place to practice disagreements with positive discussion versus splitting and raging.
No "half-use" of foul language is permitted. IE., sh&t, or he%%. If you use these sorts of words your message will not be released onto the board.
Sincerely,
El
